Guide Dog Schools, Trainers and Foundations

Guide Dogs for the Blind Since 1942 In California and Oregon

We create a profound partnership between person and dog - and help to unleash the potential in both of them. But it doesn't happen by accident. It takes preparation, a world class training program, and support through life's challenges.

The Guide Dog Foundation

The Guide Dog Foundation Mission
To improve the quality of life for people who are blind, visually impaired, or with other special needs.
Since 1946, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. has provided guide dogs free of charge to blind people who seek enhanced mobility and independence.
Our students come to us from all over the United States and many foreign countries.

Southeastern Guide Dog School, Inc. In Florida

Southeastern Guide Dogs celebrates 25 years of giving the gift of freedom and independence to visually impaired individuals. Since 1982, we have provided more than 2,270 professionally and humanely trained guide dogs, at no charge, to visually impaired men and women throughout the United States. It takes almost two years…

This is where              it all began for me on my personal odyssey. There are several good guide dog schools around the country and the world.  If you are considering a guide dog for yourself or a loved one, the decision is one which you should make based on all factors relevant to you.
For me, Southeastern was the only choice! From their breeding program, to puppy raisers, to trainers and then to the campus where students reside during training, it was a perfect choice for me. I hope you will feel the same.

Freedom Guide Dogs of America

Freedom Guide Dogs is a non-profit organization, located in Cassville, NY, that breeds, raises, trains and places Guide dogs for the blind and visually impaired through Hometown TrainingTM.
Freedom Guide Dogs was founded in 1992 by husband & wife team Eric & Sharon Loori. As experienced guide dog trainers, they took their knowledge of a new home-based
style of training and applied it to Labrador Retrievers. Program
Traditional guide dog schools use a facility-based method of training where the blind person must go to the school for a 3-4 week period to train with a guide dog. When training is complete the blind student brings the guide dog home with them. Hometown TrainingTM allows us to bring a trained guide dog directly to the blind person's home where we train with them for 2-3 weeks in their own, familiar environment.
This is all at no cost to the client.
This program has proven to be very successful. Today Freedom has more than 120 clients in 10 states throughout the Northeast because of their Hometown Training TM program.

Web Sites Created by Blind Authors

The Even Keel Group

Helping you keep your life on an even Keel is more than a tag line.  It's a way of life for me.  It's how I try and supplement my income.  Most of the money raised at this site goes to feed and clothe my family.  And some goes to pay the bills, including the cost of maintaining Music for Sight.  What do I do with the left over money?  There hasn't been any yet, but I'm hopeful. Check it out.  Tip of the day: Once you get there, go to the search edit box on the home page and search for mp3.  You'll know what to do next!

With the Blind In Mind

Head out to Colorado  and meet Ginger and find more fun, support and music! A very useful resource. I highly recommend Ginger’s web site. Here’s a little from her About Me page…
“Hello, my name is: Ginger. I live on a little farm, with my husband and my two wonderful boys. We have horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, chickens, birds and two very spoiled female cats. My husband and I are both totally blind, I went totally blind about 8 years ago and my husband went blind about 5 years ago. I enjoy reading, gardening, cooking and of course the computer.”
